Making Bookbags at the Central Library

Another year, another library event with Debbie Carton, librarian and community building maven, at the Berkeley Central Library. After two years of making bookmarks (click here and here for pictures and stories), Catherine, Debbie and I decided to mix up our textile events by making bookbags.

We worried needlessly about the lack of sign ups. Between last minute attendees and Debbie’s use of the library intercom during the 3 hour event, 37 happy patrons left the library with unique book bags made from donated fabric and pleather straps. Thanks to Paceleck for the generous donation of fabric.

As you can see, Catherine and I have a great time at these annual library events.DSCN4901

Below are some pictures of a few of the happy makers and their bags.

A big thank you to Debbie, Dolores and Julia and all the community members who spent an afternoon sharing our love of all things textile! See you next year!DSCN4893

One last note – the library quilt show is still on display on the 2nd floor of the Central Library through June 5.
