Pandora’s Box of Fabric Scraps

Yes,  I haven’t posted for a bit – I got sidetracked. I was planning on pinning and quilting the three quilt tops: Bossy Quilts, Leftovers and my most recent vintage/retro 4-patch, but I opened this small plastic bin of bits and pieces of fabrics… in fall colors… that seemed to go together….

No, Pandora, don’t open the box!!

But, I opened the box and couldn’t put the pieces back. They were a collection of leftovers from other projects, friends or random squares and scraps that I’d been saving. The container was full. It was time to use them.

I found a number of 2 1/2″ or smaller little squares and pieces – one of a kind leftovers…. Maybe I could make a quilt using both the large and the small squares. Maybe a medallion….

I made a center medallion with the small squares and bordered it twice.

Next came the larger squares. I thought maybe I’d include a ric-rak border, but no, it was a square and rectangle quilt,  finished with a border print.

I had to piece the top and bottom borders to make them long enough but you have to look very closely to find the seam. That might be my favorite part.

Of course, my first thought was to piece a back from leftovers but I found a green print in my stash (4 yards+! Thanks White Elephant!)  I only had to sew one seam. Perfect.

If you don’t hear from me for a few weeks it’s because I’m busy machine quilting.
